On the evening of June 24th, just after 7:00 PM, a salesperson from TERMINIX ambushed me to sell me a service that supposedly had an initial cost of over $200 and a monthly fee of $99. I was polite and explained that I usually handled my own pest control; however, I was looking for a company to get rid of all the crickets in my backyard—including a small mound that was full of spiders—and to treat the interior of the house to ensure there were no scorpions (I had already found one and showed them a photo). The salesperson claimed they could do all that and more. Even so, I told him to come back later—since I was about to close another contract and needed to check my budget—but then, magically, he was able to lower the initial fee to $79 and the monthly rate to $59. I know what readers are probably thinking, but I didn't realize I was falling for a scam and a trap. He told me to sign and verify the service, assuring me that if I wasn't satisfied, I could cancel without obligation within the first three days; he even showed me the specific clause in the contract. That’s how I got roped in. To make a long story short, they came the next day and performed a service that lasted nine minutes or less, treating only the perimeter of the house. When I asked about what the salesperson had promised, I was told the company didn't offer those services. Realizing I’d been duped, I signed for that specific service—which I fully intended to pay for—but immediately requested to cancel the contract. Today is the 29th—the day the three-day window expires—and the company has adamantly refused to cancel my contract. My lawyer reviewed the agreement, and we sent a cancellation letter via certified mail, yet when I call customer service, they won't even provide the number for a supervisor or manager. There is no email address on the website; I submitted a complaint via the contact form and was told I would receive a call, but nothing has happened yet.
