Ants and Infestations
Ant infestations can start out as nothing major. Perhaps you see just a few ants crawling across your countertop. This may be no big deal at the time, but when you start seeing more and more ants in your home, it’s time to do something.
Ants are likely coming into your home because they are searching for food; a household is an excellent resource for them. The ants you see are worker ants. Their place in the colony is to search for food and bring it back while leading others to the source.
A messy kitchen is a huge attraction for these worker ants. Crumbs on the floor, sticky spots on the counter, and that fruit bowl with overripe bananas are all perfect places for ants to find food. Even pet food left out on the floor can attract ants.
Ants get into your house through tiny crack and crevices, windows and door that aren’t properly shut, and basically any opening, large or small. Practicing basic cleanliness and home maintenance can save you from one of these pesky infestations.
For example, ants like rotten wood because it’s easy to build their colonies in. A small leak in a pipe dripping over time can cause the wood in the structure of your home to become saturated, and that can also attract ants.
