Best Vole Repellents
Voles are little rodents that measure four to eight inches long. They vary a bit in color from shades of brown to gray. Voles are stubby, with small eyes, nearly hidden ears, tiny legs, and a short tail. The long-tailed vole is an exception to this.
There exist 23 vole species in the United States. Often called meadow mice and field mice, voles can cause widespread damage to orchards, landscaping, and trees due to their tunneling, also known as girdling, around both seedlings and mature trees. Girdling damage most often happens in autumn and winter.
Voles can be active during both the day and night, all year-round. You will typically find voles in areas with thick vegetation (depending on the species, however). Voles dig several short and shallow burrows. They then make underground nests with grass, small stems or branches, as well as leaves. In regions with winter snow, voles will tunnel through the snow to the surface to find food.
