“I was shocked to receive an invoice from this company that told me I would incur huge fees if I tried to pay electronically. "We now can accept credit cards and ACH payments," the invoice read. "There is a convenience fee associated with these forms of payments. ... ACH is 4%, VISA/MC/Discover is 5% and AMEX is 6%." When I pointed out to the owner that the fees were ridiculously high and possibly illegal, she responded simply, "You are more than welcome to continue to pay by paper check." Paypal? Venmo? No, cash or paper check only. So I decided to switch to a company that didn't try to make a profit off of "convenience fees." Upon learning that I would be switching to a new pest control company, she told me she would send someone over to remove all the cheap plastic mousetraps around the house. Talk about petty!”
